Author: Fukuchi Tsubasa

This manga was really popular some years ago but I only recently started reading this... and in reality, I have read the sequel before this because I wasn't able to find this prequel (and that's why when I had read "Ueki no Housoku Plus" I was astonished that many characters were already introduced...) that said... I finally completed this manga and can write something about it XD
The manga starts with Mori Ai that discovers the Supernatural Power of our main character: Ueki. The boy can turn trash into trees. A really useful power, right? XD But don't worry, the others characters don't have anything better XDD and this is something that I really liked about this manga: they can fight using really strange powers. But if they have Supernatural Powers what they have to do? Well, what about a tournament to decide the next King of the Celestial World? And to do so you need to choose a junior high school student as a fighter and give him a power. The student winner will receive a special prize: the "Talent of Blank" (you can gain whatever talent you want with it). And this is how Ueki entered the tournament. After this the plot is really simple: fight, meet stronger opponents, train (luckily the author sometimes skip the training), defeat the opponent and repeat from the beginning. With this there isn't really much suprises but the candidates powers power ups (with more strange useful moves) make this manga nice to read. The only negative thing about the story is that sometimes the battles are a little too long (and this bored me a little) while the ending of the manga was a really rushed.
The characters develop greatly: Ueki at first don't talk really much and sometimes I thought that Mori was talking for him but slowly he started changing and talking more. I really liked his evolution. The same goes for the other main characters (and not since some opponents changed thanks to Ueki).
The drawings at first aren't really beautiful and the author doesn't use a lot of screen tones (he started using them nearly at the end of the manga) but his style changed and evolved so at the end of the manga it's really nice to look at the drawings.

My rating: 8/10

Story Spoiler

Ok... the whole Robert's 10 was really annoying and I wanted to return at the main tornament as fast as possibile and when we returned there it was more interesting since we discovered the "Level 2" of the powers of everyone (not Mori XD)
I was a little surprised that Ueki was a Celestial but at the same time I didn't enjoyed it because Ueki became too much powerful so to stop him the author introduced other Celestials to the tournament and the whole thing with the starting powers lost a little of his charm. Another thing that I didn't like that much is that every opponent at the end became a good guy. Even Hanon at the end... >_> and his dream was really stupid.
